Anime in Focus: Coyote Ragtime Show episode 3

Previous episode

This show is available for free on Hulu HERE

Ah, episode 3 of Coyote Ragtime show, which means I approve of the show after a two episode hazing ritual. Now that we’ve passed that, I can safely say I will commit to the rest of the show.

At the end of the last episode Mister and Franca manage to rejoin the rest of his crew on Mister’s ship. Unfortunately, they are still on the run from Marciano’s 12 sisters, who we get to see acting weird. By weird I mean discussing clothes and painting their nails. This concept confounds me greatly, as I cannot conceive why anybody would program a killer robot to care about their nails or hair. Then again, it fits the attitude of this show, so I won’t let it get to me.

During this chase scene we get a bit of exposition about the importance of getting the treasure on Graceland by the end of the week. Also, during this we find out a bit about Franca’s back story and her relation to mister. After all this, they decide to run off to see  an old friend of Mister’s, who is currently running a church.

This is an odd site, because we are given a scene of the guy’s sermon. Now then, we are shown a black guy in a southern church wearing liturgical robes singing in Japanese. For a minute there, my head was at extreme risk of exploding due to the clash. After a long talk between Mister and the priest, Gordon about the treasure and the man who hid it, Pirate King Bruce, they get attacked by the 12 sisters again. Fortunately, everybody has a rocket launcher, allowing for an explosive gunfight with them.

This episode ends with lots of gunfights and explosions. This show has a nice attitude about what it’s doing, and does not mess around. I will most certainly be continuing with it More to come later

Anime in Focus: Coyote Ragtime Show episode 2

Previous Episode

This episode is available on Funimation’s website, FREE!

Alright, after a really explosive first episode, Galactically famous Coyote ( general criminal mastermind) Mister is seen going to another planet, looking a picture of some girl with pink hair. At the beginning of this episode, we see how that girl, named Franca, is doing. At the moment, she’s running a bar on some backwater planet. Meanwhile, we get to hear about Mister’s incredibly… colorful criminal record. Meanwhile, Marciano is pulling a coup at… whatever criminal organization she works with.

Anyway, Mister barges on into this bar right in the middle of a large brawl. Due to his reputation, Mister isn’t generally well received among the people there. A gunfight breaks out, causing Mister and Franca to be saved by…. Those old guys in Cowboy Bebop? This show just can’t stop making references to Bebop, can it? Not that that’s a bad thing. After Mister and Franca break out, we get some exposition about what exactly is going on. Apparantly, something is going to happen on the planet Graceland in about a week that will cause it to be destroyed, and Mister has to find some treasure on the planet before time is up. Also, for some reason Franca has a rocket launcher hidden nearby. It seems like EVERYBODY has a rocket launcher in this series.

After a rather interesting chase scene, Mister, Franca, and his crew head off to Graceland, being chased by the government and Marciano’s 12 sisters.

From this episode, we can gather that this series likes to move very fast and feed you details as it goes along. I personally love the attitude, because it forces you to care about the little details, and makes you want to learn more. Should be doing the other episodes of this series sometime soon.

Anime in Focus: Coyote Ragtime Show Episode 1

Edit: This show's first two episodes are available freely AND legally on funimations website HERE

I ran into this show in the most uncanny way. I was sitting in an anime club meeting, thinking of a pick-up line to use on the girl behind me, when a mysterious girl came in. She talked to some people, then came to me and handed me this DVD box set. She told me that we needed to watch this. Feeling that this might be a pivotal event, I decided to inform the rest of the club of this event, and we decided to watch this show.

Looking at this show, it appears to have something to do with girls in maid outfits wielding machine guns. It also makes frequent homages to Cowboy Bebop. If you aren’t sold yet, go away.

For those of you who are looking for a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you’re in luck.

The first episode starts off with Private Investigator Angelica Burns researching a top security prison (On a planet filled with sand worms no less) in order to do research on an infamous man who often goes by the nickname “Mister.”

Unfortunately for her, she was just a pawn in Mister’s escape plan from the prison, as he was using her to distract security… while he pulls out a FREAKING ROCKET LAUNCHER. Little explanation is given as to how he got his hands on a rocket launcher in a top security prison, but it’s awesome.

During his escape attempt, a criminal guild decides to send in their top hit force, the Marciano’s 12 sisters, an elite team of killer robots wearing maid outfits. Little reasoning is given as to why they are wearing maid outfits, but I’d given up at this point. FREAKING MAID OUTIFTS MAN!

Fortunately, this show manages to stay on the awesome side of the awesome-stupid boundary. I’m actually pretty exited to see what happens.
