Anime in Focus: ninja Nonsense Episode 4

Why yes, we DO wear these masks ALL of the time

The first half of this episode is the all important beach episode.

This anime decides to differentiate itself from every other beach episode by making everybody keep on wearing their ninja masks during the beach episode.

This episode decides to lather on more fanservice than usual, not only by putting lots of focus on the girl’s swimsuits, but giving us the most gratuitous yuri scene in the anime so far. I won’t be so mean as to ruin it with context, and just leave this screencap right here…

After gratuitous scenes of both hilarity and boobies, we get to the second half of the episode, titled “Miyabi in Love” In this segment, we get to see another side of Miyabi, where she does other things besides psychotically stab Onsokumaru. Onsokumaru then sets on a journey to either help or c***block Miyabi, which is never made explicitly clear.

Unfortunately, going into detail removes a lot of the impact these episodes have, which is a really important punch for this series. Meanwhile, the series has been keeping up a consistent standard of providing both humor and boobies. Hopefully it manages to keep it up. Although the fanservice managees to be a bit over the top, it doesn't bother me in the least, unlike SOME series where it distracts from the plot. In this one it adds to it.

Anime in Focus: Ninja Nonsense Episode 3

<-No context could help this image make more sense.

I’m moving right along with watching all of that anime sitting on my bookshelf. Good news is that I think I’m winning.

Here we have Ninja Nonsense episode three, where more hilarity ensues. Humiliated by his defeat by Shinobu’s little sister in the previous episode, Onsokumaru decides it’s time to consult the faceless army of ninjas to see if they can come up with a plot to get even. After a long time getting nowhere, Onsokumaru decides to join forces with the newest member of the ninja clan, the crocodile that tried to eat him in the first part of the previous episode.

This episode picks up when Onsokumaru winds up in a battle with a doppelganger of himself that he created, who fights using incredibly dirty tactics, such as the duct-tape diaper (shown above)

The second half of the episode revolves around Shinobu overhearing a secret ninja meeting, where she is lead to believe that she is about to be kicked out of the ninja mansion. This leads to her moving in with Kaede for a while, having some wonderfully yuri-tastic moments. Turns out it was all a misunderstanding, but we still get to see more wonderful yuri anyway. Everybody wins!

Overall, a pretty good episode, demonstrating the show’s ability to maintain a good sense of humor. Only time will tell if it’s capable of keeping this up.

Anime in Focus: Ninja Nonsense (2x2 Shinobuden) Episode 2

While the first episode of this series was entirely nonsensical and had an incredibly inane plot, we must remember that the title of this series is Ninja Nonsense, and not Ninja “stuff that matters.” Realizing this, we can see this show as silly, perverted and inane, while incredibly entertaining.

This episode starts with the Kaede over at the ninja mansion for the major cherry blossom viewing festival they have every year. Unfortunately, this year it manages to rain on the day of the festival, making the entire ninja mansion disappointed that their picnic plan has been ruined. While sitting inside the ninja mansion and complaining, it is generally agreed they should use their ninja arts in order to create their own cherry blossom festival. This results in them throwing powder around like a bunch of idiots, until Onsakumaru gets nearly eaten by a crocodile… or alligator. They never really figure that out.

Part B contains another 15 minute episode that screams of Shinobu x Kaede yuri, which is always fun. Shinobu ends up stopping by Kaede’s place before she goes on a shopping trip, and winds up going along with her. For some reason Onsokumaru and one of his ninja henchmen, Sasuke wind up coming along. Because nothing looks more normal on the street than a yellow floating life form… thing and a person in full ninja gear. Strangely, nobody seems to notice this. They wind up getting lunch, which somehow involves them eating without Sasuke ever taking off his mask. During this lunh endeavor, they wind up meeting Shinobu’s sister, who happens to be a wizard that want Shinobu to transfer into a less moronic department (well I’d be concerned about leaving somebody with those guys too) They manage to convince her that the ninja school is quite competent, leading to the episode end.

This episode manages to be more entertaining than the last one, although the first one was not bad. I have the DVD box set right here, so I will probably watch the rest of this series quite soon.

Anime in Focus: Ninja Nonsense (2x2 Shinobuden) episode 1

Well, to find out what this anime is about, see the title. That will explain everything. This consists of 50% ninjas and 50% nonsense. The ratio on this often leans towards the nonsense side to be quite honest. Hence, if you are looking for an actual series about ninjas, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for shenanigans involving ninjas acting dumb, this is the show for you.

This episode starts out with our main character, Shinobu breaking into another main character, Kaede’s house in order to steal panties. We learn that this is because she is on a serious business mission from the great ninja headmaster. Unfortunately, her ninja magic does not appear to work (despite what she believes) and she unfortunately did not pack any shuriken. This leads to a rather pathetic encounter, where Kaede gives Shinobu the Panties just to get her to go away.

For some reason, due to Shinobu’s homoerotic tendencies, Shinobu decides that she must show Kaede the Ninja manor she lives in. On the way, this causes a duel with the great Ninja Onsakumaru… which does not involve much ninja magic. Unless kicking a person in the balls counts. We learn about the ninja lifestyle, and how the ninjas go about their daily business, which is quite silly. It’s nearly impossible to believe how these ninjas get any credibility, although its also really unclear what it is exactly that they do.

This show definitely lives up to its title in a good way. The characters are likeable, despite being incredibly idiotic, and their shenanigans are fun to watch. This show is heavy on the ecchi, but that doesn’t bother me at all, hehe. Furthermore, unlike some shows, when this show makes a fanservice gag, I actually find it funny. Hence, I highly recommend it, especially if you are looking for a good slapstick comedy that doesn’t demand too much out of the viewer.
